Discover Jo Ja Ryong Strathfield, a Korean barbecue restaurant at Shop 256, 20/34 Churchill Ave, Strathfield NSW 2135, Australia, where charcoal grilling, quality meats, Korean stews, noodles, and generous side dishes create a lively yet comfortable dining experience. From a food blogger’s perspective, Jo Ja Ryong Strathfield stands out in Strathfield’s competitive Korean dining scene by combining traditional tabletop barbecue with attentive service. Current listings place the restaurant around 4.5 stars on Google, with customers consistently highlighting meat quality, friendly staff, and the charcoal grill.
The menu is built around Korean BBQ while extending well beyond grilled meat. Expect marinated beef, pork, chicken, ox tongue, Wagyu, thick-cut pork belly, kimchi stew, soft tofu chilli pot, cold noodles, pancakes, dumplings, and numerous banchan side dishes. Typical spending is around A$40–A$60 per person, although recent diners have also praised A$19.99 lunch specials for their value. Takeaway, outdoor seating, credit-card payments, and wheelchair accessibility are available.
For barbecue lovers, the Wagyu and Thick-Cut Pork Belly are natural first choices at Jo Ja Ryong Strathfield in Strathfield. Wagyu brings rich marbling and tenderness, while the pork belly develops caramelised edges and a smoky aroma over the charcoal. A February 2026 customer specifically praised the Wagyu, beef tongue, and pork belly as “incredibly fresh and full of flavor.” The charcoal setup is important because it gives the meat a deeper grilled character than an electric hotplate.
The Beef Tongue is another signature worth considering. Thin slices cook quickly, developing a lightly charred exterior while retaining their characteristic springy tenderness. It is an excellent choice for diners who want something more distinctive than standard beef or chicken, particularly when paired with kimchi and the complimentary side dishes.
For a refreshing contrast to the barbecue, try the Cold Noodle Soup. The chilled broth and handmade-style noodles provide a clean, cooling finish after richer grilled meats. Recent customers have singled out the cold noodles as particularly good, while other comforting choices include kimchi jjigae and soft tofu chilli pot.
The atmosphere at Jo Ja Ryong Strathfield is casual, welcoming, and suitable for families or groups. Individual grills make the meal interactive, although staff will also help cook the meat. A recent regular who has visited for six years wrote that the restaurant “keep[s] getting better” and specifically praised the service. Another group of 25 reported attentive staff and a smooth Christmas-party experience.
The main consideration is price: a full Korean BBQ meal can become considerably more expensive than the lunch specials, particularly when ordering premium meats and drinks. Busy evenings may also feel lively rather than quiet.
For anyone exploring the best restaurants in Strathfield for memorable local dining experiences, Jo Ja Ryong Strathfield deserves attention for its charcoal-grilled meats, cold noodles, generous banchan, late-night dining, and warm service. A hidden gem in a suburb full of Korean food. The service is amazing and friendly, the atmosphere is very calm and intimate, and the food amazing. We haven't had Korean food in a while, this is definitely a welcoming warm return. Would recommend this place to friends and family!
Love how they cook the meat infront of you, which adds to the vibe of the place. They use gas and charcoal so the flavour has the char and smokiness but gets to temperature quickly. Awesome service and great personality from the wait staff!
Amazing food and service! The raw spicy marinated crab was flavourful, and perfectly spicy. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Can't wait to come back!
This Korean BBQ place offers a great overall experience. The meat is fresh, especially the pork belly and beef short ribs, with rich flavor and a perfect balance of crispy outside and tender inside. The side dishes are varied and refillable, and the kimchi and sauces taste authentic. Staff help with grilling, which makes things easier. There’s a slight smoky smell, but it’s acceptable. Overall, it’s good value and perfect for dining with friends.
Amazing food quality, huge portions, and great value! The boss is super friendly, always checking in on us and even helping out with the BBQ and meat recommendations. Highly recommend!
Really good experience overall, with 5/5 costumers services. When we arrive they welcome us warmly in the cold rain weather, giving us refill so quick, cutting the meat without interrupting us eating, and giving many complimentary food. Overall 4.9/5
Super chill atmosphere unlike a lot of KBBQ restaurants that are very full-on. The meat was obviously high quality and very delicious. To top it off the service from the lovely bubbly staff (Steph and Joung) was fantastic!!! Will definitely come back here and recommend to friends! 5/5
We had an amazing family dinner at Jo Ja Ryong - the wagyu, beef tongue, and thick-cut pork belly were incredibly fresh and full of flavor, and even our kids loved grilling their own meat. Great service, family-friendly atmosphere, and the $19.99 lunch specials are such a steal in Sydney!
